Concerned residents of Calangute along with the members of the village panchayat have decided to meet the Chief Electrical Engineer (CEE) on Tuesday to discuss the issue of constant power outages taking place in the coastal village.
On Monday, several residents and owners of guest houses gathered in the panchayat office and held a meeting with Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira and other panchayat members to find a way forward over the recurring power cuts.
The locals slammed the power department for failing to deliver proper supply to the village especially during the summer season.
“This problem has been happening almost every year for the last several years. How can the department treat the issue so casually? Besides facing personal problems due to the extreme heat condition, our gadgets are also getting spoiled on account of the continous power fluctuation. The power department has to be held accountable for this,” said Lourenco Fernandes, a resident of Candolim.
Another local slammed the department for the power cuts and voltage fluctuation.
“It is very irritating. The heat is unbearable and to add to our woes is the damage to our gadgets due to voltage fluctuation,” the local lamented.
The residents of the coastal village were reeling under power cuts as people experienced continous power outages causing a lot of stress to the villagers.
The scorching heat only added to the woes of the locals in the village.
A guest house owner wondered whether the hotels were not facing power cuts.
“We have come out to express our difficulty due to the continous power cuts. I don’t see a single hotel owner here. Don’t they face a problem or do they have another line which supplies uninterrupted supply,” the guest house owner said.
Sympathizing with the locals, Calangute Sarpanch Joseph SequeIra said that after the installation of the new power sub-station the village should have received better power supply.
“Since a new 33/11 KV sub-station was set up at Arradi, Calangute, we should have not faced power problems. We will discuss the problem with the higher authorities,” Sequeira said and agreed to accompany the villagers in meeting the chief electrical engineer.
