SANGUEM: The Gauri Packaging Industry at Cacora Industrial Estate was gutted in a fire early Saturday morning.
All the pressing machines inside the industry, electrical panels, computers, and a huge quantity of paper rolls were found to have been reduced to ashes.
After noticing the huge fire, locals rushed to the factory and made efforts to bring the fire under control. Two fire tenders from Curchorem rushed to the spot and made all possible attempts to bring the fire under control before two more fire tenders from Ponda and Cuncolim reached the incident site.
While the exact quantum of loss is yet to be ascertained, the owner and fire brigade officials claimed it to be a total loss.
The industry owner, who reached the site soon after being notified of the incident, informed that he had recently renovated the industry as part of efforts to expand production.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is believed that a short circuit may have caused the fire. Investigations are in progress.
