A strengthening weather system over the Bay of Bengal and an active circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue alerts for several southern States, even as Goa experienced isolated showers on Monday evening.
While Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands brace for days of intense rainfall, Goa reported brief showers in pockets of Canacona, Bicholim and a few other areas.
The IMD’s updated forecast comes as the cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, continues to persist. It stated that easterly winds dominate the lower levels of the atmosphere over Goa, contributing to sudden shifts in local conditions.
Earlier in the day, Goa experienced a spell of sweltering heat, although foggy conditions prevailed in the morning and evening. By late evening, temperatures hovered around 30.4°C, but humidity pushed the “feel-like” reading to 36°C.
IMD’s 24-hour summary stated that the State largely witnessed dry weather, with Mormugao recording the highest maximum temperature at 33.6°C, while Dabolim logged the lowest minimum at 24.6°C.
Despite the brief rain spells, dry conditions are expected to prevail across North and South Goa till November 30.
