VASCO

A 57-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a vehicle near the AAI Terminal building at Dabolim on Saturday. Vasco police have registered a case against the driver, who was later released on bail.

According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of June 7 when the accused, identified as Manju Naiker (34), a resident of Quepem, was driving a Sumo Grande vehicle in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Shantinagar junction towards Vales junction. Near the AAI Terminal building, the vehicle reportedly struck pedestrian Anjana Adel, a resident of Shantinagar and native of Curchorem, who was crossing the road towards the Dabolim Airport side.

The impact caused Adel to fall on the road, sustaining multiple injuries. She was rushed to the Sub District Hospital (SDH), Chicalim, where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police conducted an inquest panchanama at SDH Chicalim, and the body was later sent for post-mortem. The police surgeon concluded that the cause of death was “damage to head, chest, abdomen and upper limb as a result of blunt force impact.”

The body was then handed over to the family for final rites. Based on a complaint filed by head constable Suresh Dassar, attached to Vasco Police Station, a case was registered under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The accused was arrested and later granted bail.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Plato Carvalho of Vasco Police Station, under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
