Congress leaders on Wednesday criticised authorities for the delay in repairing the Government High School building at Agarwada-Pernem, as the school reopened for classes on Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons after visiting the school, Congress leader Devendra Prabhudessai said that work to repair the school building had started from April 11 and it was the responsibility of the government and contractor to have completed the repair work before the start of classes on Wednesday.
“Due to negligence of authorities and the contractor, the repair work could not be completed. To make matters worse, garbage has accumulated in the area. Who will take responsibility if a student falls ill or gets injured while playing,” asked Prabhudessai.
Former Parsem sarpanch Gurudas Pandey said the repair work is being carried out when classes have started.
“If the government is unable to provide the school with proper and timely facilities, it should hand over the management of the school to a private organisation,” said Pandey.
Former Agarwada sarpanch Amol Raut, Pramesh Mayekar and a number of parents were also present on this occasion.
After a delay, the renovated government high school building in Agarwada finally got a roof but the windows are yet to be installed. Sources said temporary arrangements have been made for students to sit in the laboratories, sports section, library and other empty but dilapidated rooms on one side of the building.
