Pernem police bust interstate mobile snatchers' gang

Pernem police has busted a gang from Haveri-Karnataka allegedly involved in snatching mobile phones in the State. On July 17, a series of mobile snatching cases were reported across Goa wherein two motorcyclists had been accused of snatching mobile phones.

In one such incident at Dhargal-Pernem, Mahadev Yallapa Kaur of Mahakhajan-Dhargal was standing at the Mahakhajan bus stop, when motorcycle stopped near him to seek for road directions to Belagavi.

During the conversation, the pillion rider suddenly snatched the mobile from the complainant and proceeded towards Patradevi.

By this time, the Police Control Room had received information regarding similar incident of snatching in different parts of Goa. Pernem police registered the offence and began investigations.

Since the accused had proceeded towards Maharashtra, Pernem PI Jivba Dalvi contacted his counterparts at Banda and Sawantwadi police stations to track the motorcycle. Similar offences were also reported to have been committed at Sawantwadi.

Following intensive surveillance and local intelligence, the two accused were later identified as Sudip Haweri (19) and Siraj Motebenur (19), both from Nagendramathi-Haveri in Karnataka. They were later picked up from the Haveri Police Station.

During investigation, police recovered the mobile snatched from the complainant in Pernem and also recovered two other stolen mobiles. A motorcycle was also recovered from the accused.

Further investigation is in progress by PI Dalvi under the supervision of SDPO Gajanan Prabhudesai and North SP Shobit Saxena.
