MARGAO
The Petitioner in the PIL before the High Court, Antonio Alvares has disclosed plans to make a plea to the Court to appoint a panel to implement Court directions on sewerage issues facing Margao under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary.
The petitioner told the media after Thursday’s sub-committee meeting in the Margao Municipal Council that the sub-committee has no legal standing since it was appointed by the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat.
“I have found out there’s no seriousness amongst the agencies to implement the affidavits filed in the High Court in both letter and spirit. Since the sub-committee has no legal status, accountability and responsibility cannot be enforced. Hence, I have decided to request the High Court to appoint a Chief Secretary-headed panel to go into all issues of discharge of sewerage from Margao into the river Sal,” Alvares added.
