Pilerne-Marra Panch Karan Govenkar has donated a garbage collection trolley to the contractor who collects garbage from Nova Cidade Enclave, which falls in his ward.
Speaking to The Goan, Govenkar said garbage collectors use their bare hands to pick up and clean waste, rather than using garbage trolleys or even a garbage hand cart.
“This is not only unhygienic but also leads to the spread of diseases. In light of all these factors, garbage trolleys become all the more important in sorting, disposing and managing garbage,” explained Govenkar.
“Equipped with wheels, garbage trolleys can be moved around easily. These trolleys can be used easily to pick up and transfer garbage from individual houses to pickup trucks and from there, to sorting facilities.”
“They can be used by garbage contractors for efficient door-to-door waste pickup and segregation. Keeping this in mind, I have donated a garbage collection trolley to the garbage collector of my ward,” said Govenkar.
