A group of angry locals from Panshe in Pissurlem-Sattari marched to the PWD office in Valpoi, to complain about the acute water scarcity in their area.
They complained that in the absence of natural water bodies, they have been forced to rely on tap water.
“However, our taps have been dry and there is no water supply,” lamented Laxman Gawde.
“The State government has completely ignored the village even after several complaints since the last three years,” he added.
A local, Jayeshwar Gawde, even expressed willingness to donate his land if the government were to build a water purification project in the area.
“This project would then be very useful to resolve the drinking water problems in the village,” said Jayeshwar Gawde.
Other locals said two water tanks had been constructed to provide drinking water in the village, but they have not been put into use as yet.
A senior citizen, Kalu Gawde, said PWD consumers in the area had refused to pay their water bills since the last three years.
“However, the PWD has not disconnected our tap connections. But if the PWD comes to our ward to issue bills, they will be sent back,” Kalu Gawde warned staff at the PWD office.
Since PWD officials were not present in the office at the time, the Panshe locals handed over their memorandum to the office staff.
