The pitbull which fatally mauled a 7-year-old boy in Anjuna last week has been handed over to a private dog care shelter run by an NGO in Siolim.
The horrific event had occurred when the boy accompanied his mother to her workplace.
The child was in the house while his mother performed her duties as a domestic help when the homeowner's pet dog, a pitbull, suddenly lunged at the boy. The dog viciously mauled the child and he later succumbed to injuries at the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim
The owner of the dog, Abdul Kader Khwaja, was later arrested in this connection and a Mapusa court remanded him to 14 days in custody.
Acting on a request to take custody of the pitbull involved in the death of the child, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AHVS) took custody of the dog and handed it over a dog care shelter run by an NGO in Siolim.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Aditya Naik Gawkar under the guidance of Anjuna Police Inspector Suraj Gawas.
