Mapusa Police arrested a deranged woman for allegedly setting ablaze some vehicles in Corjuem-Aldona.
The alleged accused is a 71-year-old resident of Segundowado, Corjuem and apparently mentally unstable.
The incident of arson was reported early Tuesday morning.
According to police, a car, scooter and two bicycles which were parked in a garage were set on fire at around 3 am.
The police cracked the case with the help of CCTV footage.
“In the visuals, the woman is clearly seen setting the vehicles on fire by using a match box and some cloth,” said Jivba Dalvi, SDPO Mapusa.
“During the course of investigation, we discovered that the woman is mentally ill and therefore she was admitted to the IPHB,” he added.
Accordingly a case has been registered under Section 436 IPC.
Earlier, the Mapusa fire station after getting a call at around 3.50 am rushed to the site and doused the flames but by then the vehicles were completely gutted in the fire.
A fire officer informed that there was a loss of around Rs 1.5 lakh in the fire.
Incidentally, the Mapusa fire brigade had to attend to two other fire calls in Aldona.
A jackfruit caught fire in Corjuem and fire to wild grass was reported near the St Thomas Boys High School in Aldona.
The fire brigade attended to both the calls and doused off the fire.
