Police directed to keep vigil at ecologically sensitive area

Deputy Collector of the Pernem sub-division Shivprasad Naik has directed the Mandrem police to keep a close vigil at Morjim beach to prevent the Lantern Festival or any event that harms the ecology. In a memorandum issued on Thursday evening, Naik asked the Mandrem police inspector to deploy necessary police force.

“No such events which harm or which disturbs an ecological setup shall be allowed to happen in any ecologically sensitive area. Strict vigil shall be kept by your office to prevent such activities. Necessary police force shall be deployed at the venue in order to avoid any untoward situation,” it said. The memorandum also seeks a report pertaining to the arrangement by Friday noon.
