Goa police issued a no-nonsense advisory with Ganesh festival “ starting this weekend “ is certainly expected to draw massive crowds including at Sarvajanik Ganpati pandals.
The mandatory installation of door frame metal detectors at the entrance of every pandal; installation of CCTV cameras at all key points including the entrance, exit and near the deity; and managing the throngs of devotees by following a strict queue system with the possibility of installing “Q” managers are among a long list of do’s and don’ts reeled out for the entire force.
“These cameras are expected to operate continuously and capture every movement. The organizers of Sarvajanik Ganesh Pandals should also ensure storing the footage. We will not tolerate any blind spots in security coverage,” a senior police officer said speaking to The Goan.
The organizers are warned that inadequate CCTV surveillance will be considered a serious breach of existing rules.
At the backdrop of complaints of sound pollution in the coastal belt, the authorities are also cautious about the music being played during the festivity. Police’s advisory clearly mentions that the use of amplified music should be only after permission from the competent authorities.
“We have drawn a clear line because the use of loudspeakers irrespective of any event will need permission,” the officer revealed, adding that the advisory has been issued at each police station level to maintain peace and public order throughout the festive period.
Sanitation and lighting in and around the pandals have also been specified for compliance. In a move to ensure round-the-clock vigilance, the police have also asked for the deployment of volunteers even as there would be police presence too.
The organizers are also instructed to coordinate with the electricity and forest departments to clear any hazards ahead of the festival.
