Policy to tackle stray dog menace soon: CM

PANAJI

The State government has announced decision to formulate a policy to tackle the stray dog menace within three months.

"We are in the process of deciding on a policy and will consider suggestions from the Opposition to ensure all stakeholders are taken into confidence. In 2-3 months, we will announce a policy decision similar to the proposed stray cattle policy," he said in response to a Calling Attention motion by BJP legislator Sankalp Amonkar.

During the discussion, both ruling and opposition legislators called for immediate government intervention citing concerns over unprovoked dog bites and attacks. Sawant admitted that many road accidents have occurred and tourism is affected due to the stray dog issue. "We will come up with the policy," he reiterated.

"There is fear and anxiety among the people of Goa and tourists visiting the state due to the stray dog menace and the increasing number of dog attacks in recent times. The growing population of stray dogs has become a serious concern, as packs of dogs can be seen in public places including markets, hospitals, streets and beaches," Amonkar’s Calling Attention stated.
