Leaders of various political parties and activists arrived at the Old Goa police station to express their solidarity with AAP state president Amit Palekar who was summoned in the issue of video release of land grab accused Suleiman Siddiqui.
Among those who came included GFP president and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, GPCC President Amit Patkar, Congress leader Sunil Kauthankar, Shiv Sena leader Jitesh Kamat, NCP state president Jose Philip D'Souza, TMC leader Samil Volvoikar, activists Xencor Polgi, Anthony D'Silva, Mariano Ferrao, Ana Gracias, and others.
Sardesai chided that the ones who released the video are being harassed while the one who escorted the accused out of Crime Branch custody is free.
"In such a situation, how will anybody come forward to expose such issues?" Sardesai posed.
"So I have come here to express solidarity with our alliance party president Amit Palekar and give clear message to the government that if such harassment is meted out then we will take the government head on, after New Year," he said.
"If the government fails to stop such harassment, then we will start a movement against the government," he added.
AAP MLA Cruz Silva also questioned why the ones who provided evidence in land grab scam are being harassed.
"The ones who are mentioned in the land grab scam are not investigated but the police is investigating those who have provided evidence," Silva lamented.
On the second video of Suleiman in which he claims that Palekar told him to do so, Silva questioned how the accused released the video when he was under arrest two days back.
"So it clearly shows that the second video was done under pressure from the police. Maybe the accused Suleiman was threatened," Silva said.
Activists Polgi and D'Silva also slammed the government for harassing the whistleblowers, which they said only goes to show that those who provide evidence of wrongdoings will be the ones who will face the music under the present government rule.
