Ponda police trace tempo, arrest driver in fatal hit & run case

PONDA: The Ponda police have traced the tempo and have arrested the driver in connection with the fatal hit-and-run case on the national highway near the Sanjivani sugar factory at Dharbandora in the wee hours of January 16.

The accident occurred at around 5 am when Mahmadarif Hussainbasha Momin (28), a native of Karnataka but residing at Bhumikanagar-Usgao, was riding a motorcycle, with Rohit Nicholas Kujar (20), a native of Jharkhand but residing at Bhumikanagar-Usgao, as the pillion rider.

An unidentified vehicle had struck the motorcycle and Momin died on the spot, while Kujar was seriously injured in the mishap and has been admitted at the GMC hospital in Bambolim.

Acting on CCTV cameras installed at various places, Ponda police managed to trace the tempo in Khanapur-Karnataka and also arrested the tempo driver.

Further investigation is being conducted under the guidance of Police Inspector Vijaynath Kavlekar.
