The construction of the six-lane elevated corridor along the Porvorim stretch of National Highway-66 (NH-66) is progressing ahead of schedule, with completion expected well before the 24-month deadline, according to Executive Engineer of the PWD (NH), Jude Carvalho.
Speaking to 'The Goan' on Thursday, Carvalho expressed confidence in the pace of the project, which commenced in mid-April 2024.
“There is absolutely no problem with the ongoing work. The way things are moving, the project will 100 per cent be completed ahead of the time limit,” Carvalho said.
The EE did acknowledge a technical adjustment involving an increase in the length of the piles being used, but he emphasised that this would not impact the overall timeline.
"The investigation carried out by consultants earlier is not aligning with the actual findings now, but the extended pile length won't delay the project,” he reassured, reiterating that work remains on track for early completion.
Despite the swift progress, Carvalho noted the possibility of a cost overrun, a factor he said is common in most large-scale infrastructure projects. “Cost overruns could happen, and it is the case in every project,” he added.
The elevated corridor project, stretching 5.15 km in length, is designed to alleviate traffic congestion in the bustling Porvorim area. Once completed, the corridor will stand on a single row of 86 piers and 87 spans, offering much-needed relief from heavy vehicular movement along NH-66.
With the April 2026 deadline still over a year away, the accelerated progress promises to deliver the benefits of improved traffic flow and connectivity sooner than anticipated.
