Prakash alias Fakir Chuchwad (22), the prime accused who is alleged to have fatally stabbed his former lover, Kamakshi Udapnov (30), as many as 20 times in her rented flat at Porvorim, has been remanded to 10 days in custody.
Porvorim police said an autopsy at the GMC hospital in Bambolim revealed that Kamakshi Udapnov, a native of Karnataka but residing in Porvorim, had sustained 20 stab wounds all over her body. The body was later dumped by the jilted lover and his accomplice, Nirupadi Kadakal, at Amboli Ghat. Police later recovered the body on Friday.
Police have also attached the car (GA-03-H-9923) which was allegedly used by the accused in disposing off the body at Amboli.
An examination of the car will be done on Sunday to ascertain whether the body of the deceased was placed in the boot or rear seat of the car.
Police further mentioned that Kamakshi used to stay on the third floor of a building in Porvorim.
On the night of August 30, Prakash went to her flat and began a quarrel with Kamakshi. Prakash then allegedly grabbed a knife in the kitchen and began stabbing her continuously till she died.
Some neighbours had reportedly heard her shouts, but they ignored them as there used to be frequent quarrels between Prakash and Kamakshi.
Prakash is alleged to have washed the blood from the floor and later called his friend, Nirupadi Kadakal, to the flat. They placed the body in Prakash’s car and drove to Amboli Ghat, where they dropped the body 40-50 ft down the valley, police said.
Police further stated that Prakash initially tried to mislead the police stating that he had buried the body but after persistent questioning, Prakash indicated to police the place where the body was thrown.
Both the accused were produced before a court on Saturday and were remanded to 10 days in custody. Police later handed over the body of Kamakshi to relatives for final rites.
