PANAJI: Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar raised concerns about the privatization of berths at Mormugao Port. Out of the port’s total of 11 berths, 10 have already been privatized, leaving only berths 10 and 11 under the control of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA). Amonkar warned that if these remaining berths are also privatized, it could jeopardize the livelihoods of 1,500 to 2,000 local workers who depend on these jobs. He highlighted that these workers are primarily locals and their employment is crucial for their families and communities. Amonkar has written to the MPA, the Central Minister for Shipping, and the Chief Minister, urging them to prevent the privatization of the remaining berths.
