Process to constitute DPC set in motion

MARGAO
The first meeting of the South Goa Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday set in motion the process to constitute the constitutionally-mandated District Planning Committee (DPC).

The district panchayat body also constituted a host of other statutory committees comprising the Standing Committee, Financial and Audit Committee, Social Justice Committee, Education and Health Committee, Agriculture and Industry Committee and the taluka-level development committee.

The decision to constitute the DPC by the newly-elected Zilla Panchayat members headed by Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the repeated failures of the previous bodies to leave the DPC defunct and non-functional.

While the Zilla Panchayat has elected its members on the DPC which will be headed by the ZP Chairperson, Chief Executive Officer, Sanjeev Gadkar, who will be the DPC Member Secretary, told the members that the DPC will also have members from the local bodies as well, along with MLAs from the district.
