Asserting that the bio-medical waste management plant will see the light of the day in the next 3-4 months, Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo on Tuesday said that the proposed waste treatment plant for South Goa is right on the tracks.
The Minister further said that Margao Municipal Council’s decision to go in for decentralized bio-methanation plants will not succeed, saying that only the Goa Waste Management Corporation’s proposal to set up seven bio-methanation plants at Sonsodo offers a ray of hope to resolve the Sonsodo imbroglio.
Lobo pointed out that the GWMC is still considering to set up an advanced incinerator in the State, which will take care of the RDF and plastic waste.
During an informal chat with the media, the Minister said that the South Goa waste treatment plant is right on the tracks. While declining to disclose the site for the proposed South Goa plant, he said the District Collector, South will soon announce the decisions, saying the authorities have already taken in its possession the land required for the plant.
On Sonsodo, Lobo said only the setting up of the biomethanation plants at Sonsodo would solve the garbage problem in the city.
While conceding that the office of the Director of Municipal Administration has not given the administrative approval for the estimates by the GWMC, the Minister said all these issues will be addressed after the Municipal election.
