Pursuing demand for stilts with authorities: Venzy

MARGAO
Asserting that Benaulim is facing a high threat of being submerged under flood waters during monsoons if the western bypass is not built on stilts, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Tuesday said he is pursuing the demand for stilts with various authorities including the Union Surface Transport Ministry for justice to the people of Benaulim.

The MLA said there’s still time for the government to see reason and build the bypass passing through Benaulim stretch on stilts and save the village from inundation. “I am talking to everybody on the issue, right from Margao MLA Digambar Kamat to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. After we had called on Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari last year with a plea to put the bypass on stilts, I have been doing the follow up on the matter in Delhi with my personal connections,” he said.

He said he has been closely monitoring the ongoing drainage and culvert works on the bypass alignment being executed by the PWD, NH and requesting the authorities to open the water channels before the onset of monsoons.
