BELAGAVI
A final year civil engineering student of SG Balekundri Institute of Technology, Belagavi, drowned at the Tillari waterfalls, around 45 km from Belagavi in the neighbouring Chandgad taluka.
The deceased has been identified as Hardik Praveen Parmar (22) of Kavrem-Quepem.
According to reports, Parmar had been to Tillari waterfalls on Sunday afternoon with four other classmates and he began to struggle in the water.
The body was recovered by Belagavi Rural Police and was kept at the morgue of District Hospital (BIMS).
Parents and relatives of the deceased youth rushed to Belagavi late Sunday evening and identified the body. The body was handed over to relatives Monday afternoon after post mortem and later taken to Goa for funeral. A case is registered at Belagavi Rural police station.
According to police and Maharashtra authorities, the place where Hardik and his friends had gone for swimming is dangerous and over 50 lives have been lost so far at the spot.
Principal of SGBIT Dr Patgundi and staff visited the morgue and expressed their condolences to the parents. They have also appealed to parents and students to avoid venturing to risky spots for picnics.
