MARGAO: The Sarpanch of Raia village Panchayat, Jacinta Dias, was voted out of office after a no-confidence motion was passed against her on Friday.
The meeting to discuss the motion saw heated exchanges, with the group supporting the Sarpanch questioning the Panchayat secretary over the timing of the meeting notice.
Panch member Judas Quadros demanded an explanation as to why the secretary had issued the notice on October 9, when the Salcete BDO’s memorandum calling for the meeting was dated October 10.
After discussions, the no-confidence motion was put to vote and passed by a 6-5 margin.
Speaking to the media later, Panch member Judas Quadros called for an inquiry by the Director of Panchayats and the BDO into the actions of the Panchayat secretary, especially regarding the issuing of the meeting notice and the corrigendum pasted at the residences of Panchayat members.
