The completion of underground cabling in Aldona has been delayed due to objections raised by local residents, according to Assistant Engineer (AE) Deepak Narvekar of the Electricity Department.
Despite the physical work being finished, the project has yet to be commissioned, causing continued frustration among villagers dealing with frequent power outages.
Narvekar explained that residents' resistance has hindered the final stages of the project. "Whenever contractors attempted to carry out the work, locals would object or start filming videos of the ongoing activities, creating significant disruptions. This led to contractors feeling intimidated and ultimately refusing to complete the task," Narvekar said.
In contrast, the nearby village of Pomburpa has successfully completed its underground cabling project, with the new line fully commissioned. As a result, Pomburpa did not experience major power issues during the monsoon season.
Narvekar assured that the remaining work in Aldona would resume once the monsoon subsides, with an expected completion date by January next year. However, the AE emphasised the importance of local cooperation to ensure successful completion of the project.
