RG probes flooding of Pomburpa-Chorao road

PANAJI

Revolutionary Goans discovers that damaged bandhs is the main reason for water flooding the Pomburpa-Chorao road and fields leaving drivers and passengers stranded due to the water level.

It has been witnessed that the road leading to Pomburpa Ferry began flooding after the saline water from the river breached the bandhs in the Chorao area and made it dangerous for people travelling in vehicles through this route during high tide.

Revolutionary Goans General Secretary, Shrikrishna Parab said that these bandhs are damaged and hence the water is entering the fields and road. These bandhs were built by residents several years ago and are now damaged.

"It is the responsibility of the Khazan Committee and the Water Resources Department to investigate this matter. This saline water is not only affecting the passengers but also the farmers whose field and crop is being destroyed."

“The politically connected people from here are misleading the people claiming this flooding is occurring for various other reasons. It is the responsibility of the Khazan committee to fix these bandhs which are not being done and hence this flooding of water is leading to a lot of inconvenience to people who are traveling via this route or have fields here.  Vehicles will also begin rusting because of the saline water people have to commute through,” said Parab.

“This Pomburpa-Chorao road goes under water during high tide and at times the connection is also lost leading to motorcycles being swept away in the water. It is only the locals who come to the rescue of these victims,” he added.
