An emergency meeting of the Ribandar Health Care Committee headed by local CCP Corporator Rupesh Halankar on Sunday resolved to vehemently oppose any commercial use of the small jetty located opposite the Old Ribandar Hospital.
In a press release, Adv Aires Rodrigues has stated that the move to use the jetty to ferry the tourists should not be allowed as it would create a lot of traffic congestion on the narrow road once the proposed 30-bedded health care centre starts functioning at the Old Ribandar Hospital.
Pointing out that Ribandar has been traditionally a fishing locality, Adv Rodrigues has stated that for decades this small jetty has been a regular fishing point for the local people.
Recalling that when the hospital was earlier functioning, the area around the jetty was used as a sit out place for the patients in the evening, Adv Rodrigues has expressed the hope that Ports Minister Michael Lobo will intervene and ensure that the interests of Ribandar residents is protected by not allowing the jetty opposite the proposed health care centre for any commercial activity while also protecting the fishing community of Ribandar, added the press note.
