Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC) on Saturday launched a major initiative toward infrastructure development by upgrading roads in eight industrial estates using state-of-the-art White Topping technology.
Addressing the media after inaugurating the project, Goa-IDC Chairman Aleixo Lourenco Reginaldo stated that the upgradation project will be executed in four phases.
The first phase will begin with Honda and Pilerne Industrial Estates, followed by Verna and Margao Industrial Estates. The third phase will cover Bethora Industrial Estate, and finally, the fourth phase will include Canacona, Kakoda, and Cuncolim Industrial Estates.
“Goa-IDC is committed to creating world-class infrastructure for industrial growth. This initiative not only enhances the durability and safety of our roads but also strengthens the foundation of our industrial ecosystem, ensuring better connectivity and operational efficiency for industries across Goa. By providing seamless connectivity and minimizing disruptions, we are enabling industries to function at their full potential, thereby contributing to the state's economic progress,” he said.
Managing Director of Goa-IDC, Pravimal Abhishek, announced that M/s KKB Engineering & Constructions Pvt. Ltd. has been awarded the contract. “The White topping technology follows guidelines issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to all State Governments. MoRTH subsequently framed a policy for its implementation.”
White topping involves applying a concrete overlay over distressed asphalt roads after necessary profile corrections. This process results in pothole-free, highly durable roads, promoting safer and faster vehicular movement, thus improving the efficiency of industrial operations in Goa. “This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing resilient, sustainable and world-class infrastructure to accelerate economic growth and strengthen India’s industrial backbone,” Reginaldo added.
The first phase of the initiative is underway in Pilerne Industrial Estate, where some portions have been completed.
