MARGAO
The Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan will hold an event titled “ Panchanama” on August 10 at 4 pm, at Cortalim Church Hall, to expose the false, and unrelated statements made by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the Goa Legislative Assembly, while responding to the private members resolution tabled by Adv Carlos Ferreira to introduce Romi Konknni into the schools of Goa.
GRLA Convenor Kennedy Afonso has said that Chief Minister has falsely stated in the house that the NEP task force Committee has not recommended Romi Konknni to be taught in schools. “Carlos Ferreira had raised a point of order and placed the NEP s task committee’s report which categorically made a mention that Devanagri and Romi Konknni should be introduced from class 3”, he said.
He added: “In this Panchnama, the points raised by the CM will be analysed and explained to the public through a power point presentation. GRLA wants to show all Goans that the resolution was not rejected based on the merits of the points raised by the CM , but was simply because they had the power and number of MLAs in the house”.
The Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan will also felicitate all seven Opposition MLAs who had supported and defended the Romi Konknni resolution on the floor of the house. “Along with the seven MLAs, Adv Radharao Gracias ( ex MLA Nuvem Constituency) and Caitano Silva (ex MLA Benaulim Constituency) will also be felicitated for raising the Romi Konknni Private members Bill in the Assembly in the past.
Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan has categorically stated that by rejecting the resolution to introduce Romi Konknni into schools, the BJP has trampled on the fundamental rights of the Minorities Community enshrined in article 29 (1 ) of the Indian Constitution. “Article 29 (1) supersedes all the justifications raised by the Chief Minister as it’s the fundamental rights of the Minorities. This point was again raised in the Assembly, by MLA Cruz Silva during Demands”, Kennedy said.
While Konknni is being taught in schools of Karnataka in three different scripts ( kannada , Devnagri and Roman), he said the Goa govt is playing language politics to appease the Devnagri lobby, by denying the Minorities, their right to protect their language and script. “The BJP government has clearly demonstrated that it has no political will to fulfill the aspirations of the Minority Community. GRLA feels that only a change in government in the next elections, can get this issue resolved”, Kennedy added.
