Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the bond between a brother and sister. The words Raksha and Bandhan mean protection and bond, and on this Saturday, many would have tied Rakhis on the wrists of their brothers. This calls for a little introspection though.
Even while we celebrate this bond between brothers and sisters, there could be so many girls, women and children being sexually assaulted every hour, every minute. Nirbhaya was certainly not the last. What does Raksha Bandhan mean to them? We should be going beyond words. Every woman out there could be somebody’s daughter, somebody’s sister, somebody’s wife, somebody’s mother. We need to include them in this bond.
