Porvorim police have arrested a Russian national Dmitri Kutin (20) in connection with a hit and run road mishap in Porvorim.
Karan Krishna Panchal of Maina Socorro had filed a complaint with Porvorim police stating that a car while proceeding towards Mapusa on December 7 at around 9.20 pm dashed his scooter near the ICCI bank ATM at Porvorim.
As a result, Panchal and the pillion rider Harshal Mhapankar fell on the road and sustained injuries. The car driver fled from the scene without taking the injured to the hospital and also did not inform the police about the accident.
Police registered the offence under Section 279,337 of IPC and section 134 (A)(B) of Motor Vehicle Act against the accused. During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the car was driven by the accused, Dmitri Kutin. As such, he was traced at Korgao-Pernem and brought to the Porvorim Police station, where he was placed under arrest on Friday. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
