A number of villages and areas around Salcete’s countryside are without power supply for the last two days, with the ground situation that people can look forward for the restoration of power supply only on Tuesday evening.
Villages such as Curtorim and Macazana which had gone without power since Sunday after cyclone Tauktae battered the state, continued to reel without power supply for the second day on Monday.
Senior power officials led by Executive Engineer Altivo Fernandes descended at Curtorim on Monday to take stock of the situation and to get the ongoing work expedited and ensure early restoration of the power supply.
He said though work has started in Curtorim, it will take some time for the workers to get the infrastructure and logistics in place, including the transformer, which was damaged in the incident.
Given that the cyclone has hit the power infrastructure across the state, the department has bene left handicapped in getting the required manpower to restore the supply on priority.
Nessai and Sao Jose de Areal village also went without power supply for the second day today. Assistant engineer Kavendra Naik and his team had almost completed rectifying 90 per cent of the fault with the HT line and 60 per cent as far as the LT line is concerned. In all probability, power to Nessai and Sao Jose de Areal will be restored in Tuesday, sources said.
Power supply to Cuncolim was restored by Monday evening, but neighbouring villages such as Assolna went without power for the second day today.
Sources say issues concerning to incoming supply of power from Xeldem were cited as reasons for the delay in the restoration of power supply to Assolna and other villages.
Salcete coastal belt also went without power supply for the second day on Monday. Hopes, however, were raised that the power may be restored later tonight as the electricity department has decided to take incoming supply from the Benaulim feeder since there’s been issues concerning the Velim feeder.
Power officials along with Cavelossim Sarpanch Dennis Dias and others were monitoring the situation as they were all waiting for the supply of power from the Benaulim feeder.
