Harassed health care workers get morale boosting support

MARGAO
This ex-Margao Municipal Councillor and a group of Borda locals have decided to support the Covid warriors in their own way “ to stand by the healthcare workers who have increasingly come under the scanner of housing societies and residents for staying in their neighbourhood.

With two back-to-back incidents against the health care workers and with three private hospital in ward no 10 attending to Covid patients, outgoing Margao Municipal Councilor Glen Andrade took upon him the responsibility to come to the support of the healthcare workers putting up in the ward.

As if the notice served by a housing society to a hospital proprietor to stop putting up nurses in the society  was not enough, residents reportedly questioned a doctor, working in one of the three private Covid hospitals, for staying in a rented apartment in neighbourhood. “I received a call from the doctor, who hails from North Goa. Some people reportedly told the doctor not to stay in the neghbourhood. Since he works in shifts in the private hospital, he has decided to stay in a rented apartment near my residence at Borda. He has taken the flat on rent so that he can attend to the patients better”,  Glen said, while expressing satisfaction that the  matter stands resolved after  his intervention.

He added: “People may have their own reservations, but in this times of pandemic, we all have to support the health care workers, who are working round the clock in the Covid hospital just for our sake.  As our state is reeling under the deadly novel corona virus pandemic second wave, our doctors, nurses, volunteers are collectively working hard by staying away from their families and risking their own lives to save people from the dreaded virus”.

Taking cognizance  of these two incidents, the ex-MMC Councilor got in touch with a group of youngster from ward No 10 to pledge to stand by the medical fraternity and protect corona warriors. “These health care workers are doing yeoman services, but sadly they are being harassed by the people. This has to stop either through awareness or bringing incidents to the notice of the  law enforcing agencies”, he added.

Glen said he has contacted doctors and nurses from the three private hospital, besides Hospicio and conveyed a message that the people of Borda are with them during the difficult days. Saying he has discussed the matter with MLA Vijai Sardesai, Glen said people may contact any of these persons, including Councillor Vitorino Tavares  9822987051, Glenn Andrade.  9822182328, Roussel De Miranda  9881267888, Alison Morenas 7020087668, Bryan Fernandes 8830817656, Hasten Fernandes  8308781345, Sameer Desai 9881976394, John Carneiro and others.
