While the anticipatory bail application of Guirim Sarpanch Sani Nandokar, who has been booked for allegedly raping a young woman, is expected to come up before the district and sessions court on Monday, some BJP politicians were working overtime to save the beleagured sarpanch from the spot of bother.
Sources informed that a former BJP legislator was putting all effort to convince the victim to withdraw the complaint against the sarpanch.
Incidentally, Nanodkar is a BJP karyakarta and was formerly holding the post of secretary of the Saligao BJP mandal.
Mapusa Police had registered an offence against Nandokar after the victim woman complained that she was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused since last year on the pretext of marrying her.
A resident of Vancio-vaddo, Guirim, Nanodkar is a senior panchayat member and has been elected at least for three terms in the village panchayat.
