CANACONA
In the first political fallout in Canacona after the assembly elections, Poinguinim Sarpanch Jagdish Gaonkar was ousted in a no-confidence motion on Friday.Dy Sarpanch Elda Fernandes and four other panchas, Pravir Bhandari, Ramdas Pujari, Rudresh Namshikar and Sarita Pagi, who had moved the no-confidence motion against the sarpanch almost a fortnight ago were present at the special meeting, while Gaonkar and three other panchas remain absent. The motion was later passed by 5-0 votes.
Only a few months are left for the statewide panchayat elections.
Sources said the five panch members had moved the no-trust motion against the Sarpanch a few days before the counting of votes at the assembly elections.
The sarpanch, who was supported by the panel owing allegiance to ex-Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, is reported to have approached Fernandes, but he declined to intervene. Newly elected Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar also declined to act on the matter.
Diksha Pagi, Monteiro and Vipin Prabhugaongkar were the other panchas who did not attend the special meeting on Friday.
