Citing favouritism and corruption in the state government's hurried process for filling posts, State Congress President Girish Chodankar on Saturday demanded scrapping of the recruitment process for thousands of government jobs, while also demanding that it be monitored by the High Court.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Chodankar also said that instead of individual departments, the Staff Selection Commission should be roped in to carry out the mass recruitment.
"We will give the CM time to scrap the recruitment process which has been carried out over the last six months. The process should be stopped. Let the Staff Selection Commission carry out the recruitment in a transparent process and let the High Court monitor the process. Only then Goan youth will get justice and free jobs on merit," Chodankar said.
"If the Chief Minister does not carry out these changes in eight days, which is all recruitment carried out over the last six months as well as ongoing recruitment, then we will have to approach the courts," Chodankar added.
This is the second instance of Congress lashing out at Chief Minister Pramod Sawant alleging a large fraud in the recruitment process for the nearly 10,000 jobs, a pre-election bonanza announced by the BJP-led government.
Among the instances cited by Chodankar to back his allegation, involves 100 out of 100 marks scored by Minister for Legal Metrology Filipe Neri Rodrigues' personal assistant in the examination for the post of inspector in the same department as well as a job applicant from the Chief Minister's constituency scoring cent per cent marks.
"Our intention is not to stop this recruitment. Our appeal to the High Court will be that the recruitment should be monitored by the HC and the Staff Selection Commission and the process should be completed before the election. They will keep job aspirants hanging otherwise," Chodankar said.
The state Congress president also said that when the Congress government comes to power in 2022, the entire recruitment process would be vetted and officials who have carried out alleged hanky panky would be asked to justify their decisions.
