SDM issues notices asking why premises shouldn’t be shut

While the Anjuna Police has written to the Tourism Department to revoke the licences of the two resorts where the alleged sex racket was going on, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) has issued show-cause notices to both resorts asking why the premises should not be closed.

Issuing the show-cause notice under Section 18 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956, SDM Gurudas Desai said the Anjuna Police Inspector (PI) had conducted a raid at Maior Roma resort by Jolly Jolly Lester, Vagator and Cosmos @ Greenspace hotel at Bamonvaddo, Siolim on September 7 and rescued some females who were allegedly used for prostitution.

During the raid, the police also arrested two accused who allegedly ran the sex racket.

The SDM further said that the Anjuna PI in his complaint has contended that both the resorts were allegedly used by the accused as a brothel and requested to close the premises under Section 18 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956.

Desai directed the resorts to show cause as to why the premises which are being used as brothels for carrying illegal activities of prostitution and flesh trade should not be closed.

The matter has been fixed for hearing on September 28.

Meanwhile, the Anjuna PI has asked the Tourism Department to revoke the licences issued to the two resorts where the alleged sex racket was going on.

“We have taken serious note of this illegal prostitution racket. We have written to the tourism department to cancel the licences of both the resorts,” said Jivba Dalvi, Mapusa SDPO.
