MAPUSA
GOACAN has demanded the shifting of the Parra Post Office from its current location at the Mapusa Post Office to Parra village so as to put an end to hardships faced by consumers of Parra having to travel to Mapusa for their postal services.
The NGO has written to Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Goa Division, Narasimha Swamy to immediately intervene and facilitate the shifting of the Parra Post Office to its earlier location “ the Panchayat Ghar of the Village Panchayat of Parra.
It may be noted that due to the reconstruction of the office building of the Village Panchayat of Parra, the Parra Post Office was first shifted to a house in Canca, Parra and as there was no proper internet connectivity it was then shifted to the first floor of the Mapusa Post Office building.
Although the reconstructed Panchayat Ghar of Parra was inaugurated in 2020, the Parra Post Office has continued to function in Mapusa for the last two years. Moreover, even the Letter Box of the Parra Post Office has been shifted to the first floor of the Post Office building at Mapusa.
GOACAN has pointed out that the finalisation of the amount of rent to be charged for the premises must be resolved at the earliest by taking into confidence the Director of Panchayats and the BDO.
Meanwhile, the GOACAN month-long awareness drive of the Consumers Rights & Responsibilities which includes postal services in Goa will conclude on June 25, the State Consumer Rights Day.
