Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik on Wednesday condemned the illegal demolition of a portion of the Agarwadekar family's house in Assagao and assured them of full government support.
In a strong statement, Naik emphasised that the government will not tolerate acts of "goondagiri" and promised all possible assistance to the affected family.
Naik revealed that he has spoken with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, urging him to provide the necessary aid to the Agarwadekar family during this distressing time.
"What has happened to the Agarwadekar family is completely wrong and unacceptable. I have spoken to the family and assured them that the entire state of Goa stands with them during these difficult times. We will help them in every possible way," Naik toldThe Goan.
The incident in question occurred on Saturday when a group of 10 to 15 bouncers, accompanied by a JCB, forcibly entered the Agarwadekar property at Bhairo Alto, Assagao, and partially demolished their two-storeyed residence.
The family, taken aback by the sudden invasion, immediately called the police. However, their pleas were met with a delayed and inadequate response.
Naik, currently in Delhi for the ongoing Parliament session, reiterated his commitment to ensuring justice for the Agarwadekar family.
"The government shall not tolerate such inhuman actions in the future. Whatever steps need to be taken to protect the interests of Goan citizens will be undertaken by the State government," he added.
The union minister also expressed confidence in the Chief Minister’s handling of the situation.
"I understand the Chief Minister has met with the family, and I firmly believe he will take concrete steps in this matter, leaving no stone unturned to secure justice for the Agarwadekars," Naik stated.
Emphasising that this incident transcends political boundaries, Naik called for a united effort to curb unlawful activities and protect citizens from similar ordeals.
"This is not the time to play politics. We must cooperate with the government to eradicate the menace of goondagiri and their illegal activities," he asserted.
The shocking event has sparked widespread outrage across Goa, with citizens and local leaders condemning the brazen act and demanding accountability and stricter enforcement of laws to prevent such incidents from recurring.
