SMC chairperson survives no-trust motion again

BICHOLIM

Sakhali Municipal Council (SMC) Chairperson Raya Parsekar survived yet another bid when the no-confidence motion was rejected due to absence of all six BJP-backed councillors at a special meeting on Saturday.

The seven Congress-backed councillors of Parsekar, Dharmesh Sagalani, Rajendra Ameshkar, Kunda Madkar, Jyoti Blegan, Ansira Khan and Rajesh Sawal were present at the meeting

The Returning Officer Kabir Shirgaonkar later stated that the no-confidence motion was rejected as all six signatories to the motion were absent.

Following these developments, SMC Chairperson Raya Parsekar and Deputy Chairperson Rajesh Sawal have survived the no-confidence motion moved against them.

“The BJP has made many attempts to oust us but they have not been successful. Now at least, everyone should come together and cooperate for the development of Sankhali,” said Parsekar.

“With assembly elections barely six months away, all pending issues need to be resolved by being united instead of attempting to destabilising the council,” he added.
