The nightmare of motorists driving the national highways, battered as they are with ongoing works, will continue for some more months and hopefully end before the onset of the next monsoon in June 2021.
A Director-General level official in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) I K Pandey, is down in Goa and is reviewing the ongoing National Highway work.
One among his tasks is to trouble-shoot and mitigate hurdles in the way of timely completion of the ongoing work.
Pandey said, all the ongoing work of the National Highway projects are expected to be complete by June 2021.
“After the review I am confident that these works will be completed very soon," Pandey said.
The condition of the roads, particularly NH-66 (formerly NH-17) has been pathetic for the last couple of years with work for its expansion in progress.
Motorists have been constantly complaining that the contractor has failed to provide alternates in the form of service roads.
At several points the condition is pathetic even to the extent of some blind spots being virtual death traps with poor signages, especially after sundown when visibility is low.
