SOUTH GOA RGP LS CANDIDATE: RUBERT PEREIRA

Down but not out

SOUTH GOA RGP LS CANDIDATE: RUBERT PEREIRA

OLD GOA

Born to late Rosario Pereira and Angelina Gomes, Revolutionary Goans Party’s South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Rubert Pereira is the last among the five siblings in the family.

Brought up in a humble background in Curtorim, Pereira was able to complete XIIth standard in Commerce and just like any other teenager of his age, his dream was to work on the cruise liners and support himself and his family.

And the dream came true when, at the age of 24, Pereira made his maiden voyage in a cruise liner in 2008 and he continued to live the dream for another 12 years until Covid struck in 2020 bringing the cruise tourism industry to a grinding halt.

Pereira had to return home and the going got tough during the Covid period which saw everybody going through a rough phase.

In these difficult times, though, Pereira who always wanted to do something for Goa and Goans, then joined the organisation the Revolutionary Goans, who were fighting for the very cause that was dear to Pereira.

Very soon, Pereira emerged as a leader of the outfit in Curtorim constituency where he took up the issue of the migrant dominated Kargil bhasti.

In the 2022 Assembly elections, Pereira was rewarded with the RGP ticket in Curtorim where he finished a credible third behind MLA Alex Reginald Lourenco.

And today, as destiny would have it, Pereira has become a prominent leader of the RGP in South Goa which is the reason why the party has entrusted him a huge responsibility by declaring him as the party’s Lok Sabha candidate for South Goa.

And with RGP’s lone MLA Viresh Borkar campaigning alongside Pereira, it is going to be a closely watched contest, which has the potential of taking Pereira to greater heights.
