NORTH GOA CONGRESS LS PROBABLES: RAMAKANT KHALAP

MAPUSA

Former Union Minister Ramakant Khalap emerges as a formidable contender, boasting an illustrious career in both politics and public service. Affectionately dubbed the "silver-haired politician," Khalap, aged 77, commands respect with his extensive qualifications and seasoned experience in electoral politics.

A law graduate, Khalap's political journey commenced with the Maharashtra Gomantak Party (MGP), where he garnered prominence by representing the Mandrem constituency six times in the Goa Legislative Assembly.

His tenure as Deputy Chief Minister of Goa in 1990 and subsequent role as Union Law Minister during Prime Minister Deve Gowda's tenure solidified his reputation as a stalwart in governance.

Khalap's contributions extend beyond legislative chambers; his initiatives such as the introduction of the Women’s Reservation Bill and establishment of the now-defunct Mapusa Urban Cooperative Bank of Goa reflect his commitment to progressive policies and community development.

Despite a brief stint with the BJP, Khalap's current allegiance lies with the Congress, where his influence and popularity remain palpable.

VIJAY BHIKE

Can grassroots leader gain favour?

In contrast, Vijay Bhike emerges as a grass roots leader whose ascent within the party ranks signifies dedication and unwavering loyalty.

From humble beginnings as a party worker, Bhike's trajectory led him to the esteemed position of General Secretary of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.

Armed with a degree in political science, Bhike's advocacy began in his youth, actively engaging with the youth Congress and championing student issues. Despite an unsuccessful bid in the 2017 assembly elections, Bhike's tenacity shines through his role as President of the Mapusa Congress Block and the North Goa District Committee.

Bhike's vocal criticism of the incumbent BJP government and his proactive involvement in agitations underscore his commitment to representing the interests of the people of North Goa.

SUNIL KHAUTANKAR:

Will emerging voice be chosen?

Completing the trio of contenders is Sunil Khautankar, whose dedication to the Congress cause is unwavering despite a lack of electoral experience.

Currently serving as the Vice President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, Khautankar's influence stems from his relentless advocacy against the BJP government and his adeptness in raising pertinent issues.
