Optimising traffic flow: Solutions for safer roads

At any time, a variety of vehicles, ranging from large trailers and buses to tiny cars, crowd our roads, all competing for space. Larger vehicles dominate, leaving little room for smaller ones, which often struggle against their massive counterparts. Regulating traffic by restricting the movement of oversized vehicles to off-peak hours could ease congestion and improve traffic flow.

Earthmovers, concrete delivery trucks, and goods vans require ample space and should be limited during peak times to prevent accidents and ensure smoother traffic. Implementing time-bound regulations would promote orderly traffic flow, particularly during school hours when buses rush to meet schedules, sometimes resulting in accidents. Restrictions should also apply to filming on roads and highways, while stray cattle should be impounded to prevent roadblocks.

The Motor Vehicle Act should be strictly enforced, with taxes used to enhance road safety and optimize traffic flow. Designing safer road infrastructure and restricting the movement of horse carts and street vendors during peak hours can further mitigate congestion and accidents. It’s essential for all road users to cooperate to ensure safer and smoother travel experiences.
