The intense race for the Congress tickets for both the Lok Sabha tickets in Goa has reportedly brought the Congress camp under the close lens of party workers and well-wishers. Civil society members have criticized the unexplained delay by the INDIA Bloc and Opposition parties, especially the Congress, in announcing its South Goa candidate for upcoming Lok Sabha elections and said that it will fight the elections with its full strength.
There seems to be utter confusion in the Congress camp as far as naming the candidates is concerned. This has put not only the party workers in a fix but has also resulted in a dilemma among the party supporters, well-wishers and the general electorate. Everyone is at a loss of words to explain the inordinate delay. Some citizens are even circumspect of the Congress party’s seriousness in contesting the elections. Has the party conceded defeat even before the first vote has been cast?
With a little more than a month left for the May 7 elections in the State, how the party will reach out to the voters seeking their support is anybody’s guess. The delay has given the ruling dispensation a head-start in the electoral battle. Makes one wonder whether the Congress party is following in the footsteps of the childhood fable “The Hare and the Tortoise” in letter and spirit. The moral of the story is ‘slow and steady wins the race’. However this may not hold true in electoral politics where time is of essence. There seems to be nothing grand about the country’s ‘Grand Old Party’ as it struggles to even find suitable candidates for the general elections.
