SANGUEM
Staff shortage has affected services at the Sanguem Post Office for a number of months.
It has become a common sight to find a long queue of people for various services, which include saving bank accounts, recurring and fixed deposits. Sometimes, people have been forced to leave the post office without getting their work done.
“I visited the post office on three successive days but still could not get my work done due to long queues,” complained a local.
According to sources, the post master has been on sick leave for the past 15 days, but there has been no replacement as yet and as a result, one clerk has to handle all work at the post office.
“There is a vacancy for two staffers since a number of months but the postal department has not filled the two posts till date,” said the source.
Such has been the situation that the lone clerk at the Sanguem Post Office has even asked the public to lodge complaints with the head office in Panaji for additional staff.
