The State government will install two life-size statues of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Father of the Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar at the Aquem Power House junction.
This was announced by Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat in the presence of Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar at the Aquem Power House junction when a delegation of followers of Dr Ambedkar sought permission to erect the leader’s statue at the junction to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14.
While Ambedkar’s followers have been assured that their plea for a temporary installation of the statue for the April 14 programme will be granted, the Margao MLA informed that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has been asked to prepare a plan for the installation of life-size statues of Shivaji Maharaj and Dr Ambedkar at the Power House junction.
“Since the work on the proposed four-lane Rawanfond bridge will start soon, the statues of both Shivaji Maharaj and Dr Ambedkar will be installed by the GSIDC at the Aquem Power House junction in the third phase when the islands will be taken up for development,” Kamat said.
