Day one of the reopening of Std XII schools in the city here turned out a different experience for the students as well as the school management with masks and social distancing literally being the order of the day.
While students were thrilled to be back in school this academic year, all exited to meet their friends after a gap of many months, managements worked overtime since the last 2-3 days to ensure that the SOP in place is implemented in both letter and spirt in the class rooms as well as on the campus.
Day 1 of the academic year saw no classes in many at higher secondary schools, with the teachers imparting only the dos and don’ts on the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some of the students of Damodar Science higher secondary told the media that they were satisfied with the measures put in place by the school management. “The management has well-maintained the SOP including social distancing in the class rooms and campus. The benches were clean and the students were told to wear mask. Everything was good and well maintained,” a student told the media.
While nothing was taught on Day one, except instructions on the SOP and social distancing, the students said they were all exited to be with their friends and start the academic year.
The managements braced up to meet the situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic. Principal of Loyola Higher Secondary school, Fr Basil Vago said he found Day 1 cooperative, with the parents and students cooperating to put in place the SOPs in the school.
Saying the higher secondary school reported 100 percent attendance on Day 1, Fr Basil said the school saw students attending the classes in two batches. “We are having one division at a time with 12 students in each classroom. We have received good response so far,” he said.
Fr Basil said the students have been sensitised with regards to the Covid-19 situation and the precautions and measures they have to adopt in the classrooms and the campus.
“We have been busy sanitising the classrooms, the washrooms and the campus, It has been decided not to use the same classroom twice in a day. Every batch will have a different classroom,” he said.
