Two areas of Taleigao village will soon be designated 'pay parking' zones -- the area in front of the St Michael Church and both sides of the road in the market area -- and will be administered by the Taleigao village panchayat.
North Goa Collector has issued the notification designating this areas as pay-parking zones with fees for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers fixed.
The Collector has also imposed some conditions for the panchayat to follow so as to ensure public order and convenience.
As per these conditions, whoever the contractor chosen by the panchayat to implement these pay-parking zones will have to ensure that at least two car parking spaces are available at all times to accommodate emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire-tenders.
Also, one four-wheeler parking space will have to be reserved for persons with disability (PwD) by the contractor.
Another condition imposed is that staff engaged by the contractor to collect the pay-parking fees must be in proper uniform and the receipts issued should have the official letter-head of the Taleigao panchayat.
The fees prescribed are Rs 5 for up to four hours for two-wheelers and double that amount for up to 12 hours. Four-wheeler owners will have to shell out Rs 20 for the first four hours and then Rs 15 for every additional hour of occupying a parking space.
The administration is hoping that the creation of pay-parking zones in the village will bring some order and ensure that haphazard parking which is a major public hindrance will be taken care of.
