Music systems from 10 cars parked on the side of the road in Mapusa and Parra were stolen during the early hours of Friday.
The thieves broke the side glass doors of the cars to steal the music systems, all worth around Rs 6 lakh.
Police informed that the thieves have targeted cars parked on public roads.
The thieves broke into five cars at Feira Alta alone in Mapusa while other cars were targeted in other areas including the Parra road.
Local residents have approached the Mapusa Police with their complaints.
According to the police, the suspects may have also stolen the music systems of a few more cars.
Similar incidents of stealing car stereos were also reported in Porvorim and Panaji on Saturday, a police source informed.
“Stealing of car stereos had stopped several years ago. This incident must be happening after almost 15 years. This must be definitely the handiwork of an organized gang who are targeting only car stereos,” a police official said.
Mapusa police have registered a case of theft under section 379 of the IPC against unidentified thieves.
PSI Gaurav Naik along with Constables Digambar Kambli and Sandeep Madkaikar are investigating the case under the supervision of Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar.
